The best way to get started is to copy the directory structure of the type of project you'd like to build, and edit the descriptors to match.
Rather than adding new servlets, you simply add your own commands, view mappings, etc. to the Marrow application simply by editing /docroot/WEB-INF/marrow-application.xml.
